Carlos Tevez to be axed as Manchester City skipper

ROBERTO MANCINI is expected to strip Carlos Tevez of the captaincy at Manchester City until hes sorted his head out.

Mancini has confirmed that his sulking striker will play against Everton at Eastlands on Monday.

But the City boss is worried about Tevez remaining as skipper in the wake of the row between his star man and the club.

Tevez has had a written transfer request rejected by City bosses.

But until the situation is resolved Mancini is understood to want someone else leading the side.

He fears the row has messed with Tevezs head and might affect hisability to wear the armband.

The Italian could now replace Tevez at the helm with Vincent Kompany.

But the move could backfire if Tevez takes the decision personally.

Mancini returned from Juventus late following Thursday nights Europa League tie due to problems with the team plane.

It meant he didnt have as much time with Tevez as hed planned, but is willing to risk upsetting the Argentine further by putting someone else in charge of the team until next month.

Micah Richards has hailed Tevez as Citys Special One and told him he must stay at Eastlands.

Richards, who replaced Tevez as captain for Citys draw in Juventus said: Im con! fident h e will stay. Hes a big part of our team. If you ask anyone, they will tell you that. I think they will get it sorted out and the sooner, the better.

Hes been just the same. Hes got his opinions and stuff, but Im sure we can keep him until the end of the season at least.

Were doing well in the league, were top of our group in Europe.

We need him in our team if we want to achieve what we want to achieve.

Hes our main man and our captain. I dont think its anything to do with Manchester City to be honest.

Hes said previously that hes tired. He made his debut when he was 15 or 16 and I think hes missing his family back home.

Hes a bubbly character and hes always laughing and joking in training.

But Carlos is our special one and we need him in our team. We all know that.
