Carlos Tevez: 'I'm staying at Manchester City'

MANCHESTER City last night won their power struggle with Carlos Tevez as the Argentine made a dramatic U-turn by withdrawing his transfer request.

The move came after City held clear-the-air talks with the striker who lodged the request last week.

City issued a statement which said: During the meeting, Carlos expressed his absolute commitment to the club and formally withdrew his request.

His contract remains unchanged and both Carlos and the club are keen to focus on opportunities that lie ahead.

Manager Roberto Mancini said: Carlos is a world-class player whose contribution since he joined the club has been invaluable. I am pleased we are now able to focus on pure football matters and look forward to Carlos continuing to play a signifi cant role in the clubs progress.

Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak was present as Tevez was told City do not review contracts until a player is at least halfway through an agreement.

Tevez joined for 26m in July 2009 and reaches halfway in a three-and-a-half-year deal next summer.
