World Cup 1982: England 0-0 West Germany
The two were coming to know each other well by now, and this was reflected in the score line. With neither able to breach the other's defence the game finished tied at 0-0.Both Germany and England had qualified from their first round groups. The format of this competition saw a second league of three teams, all playing each other once, with the top team progressing to the semi-final.
Bryan Robson came close for England, and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge cracked one against the bar as the game dwindled towards its climax, but that was about it.
It was then left to see how both would perform against the third member of their mini-league, Spain. Germany ran out 2-1 winners, but yet again England failed to score, and for the second time in a row it finished 0-0. England bowed out, but Germany reached the final, where they were comfortably beaten by the Italians.
