A Star On The Rise: Andre Schuerrle

Thomas Tuchels side look back to their best after a bit of a down period that saw them drop out of top spot in the Bundesliga table. Tonight, they put on a top performance against a Nurnberg side who hold a respectable mid-table position after some strong results earlier in the season. Andre Schuerrle was definitely the man of the match, and the young Germans highlight reel continues to grow after this fantastic performance.

While the 30 scoreline suggests a convincing, dominating display, it doesnt tell the whole story. Nurnberg had their chances but really failed to take them, and maybe deserved a little bit more than the heavy loss they ended up suffering. Still, its exactly what Mainz were looking for and theyll need to keep it up if they want to keep Bayer Leverkusen off of their heels.

Andre Schuerrle opened the scoring after a set-piece, and then played a fantastic back-heel into the path of Nikolce Noveski who hammered home a second ten minutes after half-time. Super-sub Sami Allagui sealed the win with minutes left on the clock.

Andre Schuerrle has been excellent, but where does he fit into Joachim Loews plans? Is he the heir to Miroslav Kloses throne, or does Mario Gomez hold the key to that spot? Whats certain, is that the amount of competition for places in the German national team is unbelievable. Germany have so much quality that they could nearly field two sides that would be able to compete equally at the highest level. The future definitely looks bright.
