Zvonimir Soldo Sacked By Koln
Soldo Sacked After Woeful Start.
After only winning five points from their first nine matches, Koln have decided to relieve Zvonimir Soldo of his duties as head coach. The defensive-minded manager had his team playing a very deep 41-41 formation, and his lack of attacking ambition ultimately was the end of him. Koln have dropped into the relegation zone, and thats been the final nail in the coffin for Soldo.
Soldos side were set up to grind results out, but failed to do that. If a side is defending deep and playing on the counter-attack to grind out results away from home, thats fine, as long as theyre actually getting those results. Unfortunately for Koln, Soldos defensive setup wasnt attractive to watch and they were still getting beaten. Whats the point of playing so defensively if youre still going to concede and lose games?
Koln will be looking for a complete turnaround from their next manager. Attacking football is what the fans want, and its what the board wants. Even Lukas Podolski has spoken out about Kolns lack of attacking ambition. Losing in style is far less embarrassing than sitting deep and conceding late.
Thomas Doll is being lined up as a possible replacement.
