Bassong - Bale staying put

Tottenham defender Sebastien Bassong is adamant team-mate Gareth Bale is not going anywhere in the January transfer window. Bale cemented his star status at Spurs with a stunning hat-trick during their 4-3 UEFA Champions League defeat to Inter Milan in Italy earlier this month. That display put the Welsh international on the radar of several top clubs in Europe, prompting speculation of a big-money January move for the 21-year-old. But manager Harry Redknapp has since made it clear Bale is not on the market, and Bassong has reiterated that stance by insisting the winger is staying put. "He is such a good player and the way he was out there was just amazing," Bassong told The People. "He's not going to leave though, I'm positive. He's staying with us."Everybody was already talking about Gareth Bale before he scored that hat-trick."But he has to keep working and I'm sure he is going to be a top, top player."

Improve

Tottenham host European champions Inter in the Group A return fixture on Tuesday evening, and Cameroon international Bassong is hoping his side can improve on their display at the San Siro. Bale's treble compensated for an otherwise dismal night for Spurs, during which goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes was sent off after eight minutes to see them go 4-0 down by midway through the first half. "We started that game so badly and gave three goals away," added Bassong. "You just cannot accept it when you give two goals away in five minutes."The game seems to be a nightmare when you are in that situation but the experience can make the team stronger."And from a personal point of view I will definitely learn from it. I am still young and I need to learn from games like that one. It will help me in the future." Tottenham 13/8, Inter Milan 13/8, Draw 12/5
