Their reaction in not even defending the England star when he was the butt of chants from home fans suggests he has a long way to go to restore his reputation after the way he went about getting his new 140,000-a-week contract.

The next test comes in front of the home faithful tonight when United meet Wolves in the Carling Cup a
week after Old Trafford resounded to an angry backlash against the striker. Rooney will not be there as he is sunning himself for his 25th birthday in Dubai with wife Coleen and resting his injured ankle.

But club captain Neville said: It reality is, when it does all settle down time heals, he will go on to have a
great career and win trophies. We dont want all the sort of wallto- wall coverage in the papers about the club that happened last week. But in the end the right thing has happened for Wayne, for his career and for his life.

Hes made the right decision and the club get to keep a great player and someone who works so hard for the team every week.

That reaction from arch Red Nevillewill be good news for Rooney, whose decision to turn his back on the
prospect of a mega-money move across town to Manchester City was infl uenced partly by the angry mob of supporters who protested outside his house last Thursday night.
!
But United fans still want him to deliver a proper apology to them. Chudi Onwuazor, editor of blog The
Busby Way, said: He has much to do to rebuild the rapport he once had with us.

His words lastweek were not only confusing but also very insulting. hero Javier Hernandez to help himself to more goals after two at the Britannia made it fi ve from as many starts.

Neville believes the emergence of the 22-year-old Mexican has been one of the big bonuses of the whole Rooney saga.

He said: To be honest, he is one ofthe most exciting young prospects we have seen at this club for some time.
For him to get that second goal onSunday was fantastic for us and he deserved it. He works so hard and he has done so well since he came to the club that Hes tough, hes grown up in Mexico, but what sets him apart for me is
his work rate every single day.Hes got the right attributes. He will score lots and lots of goals
for this club.

Hernandez, nicknamed Chicharito, which translates as Little Pea, will almost certainly partner Federico Macheda tonight as Sir Alex Ferguson doesnt want to rush striker Michael Owen back into action after a groin injury. The United boss could, however, pick Owen Hargreaves for his fi rst start since September 2008 as the England midfi elder has fi nally made some progress in his battle against a chronic knee injury.
