CARLING CUP 4TH ROUND: Arsenal cruise past Newcastle, but Villa and West Ham need extra time to progress.

Arsenal came away from Newcastle with an emphatic 4-0 victory and take their place in the Carling Cup quarter-finals.The first half seemed to be ending scoreless until Tim Krul put through his own goal. The Gunners doubled their lead when Theo Walcott scored just after the break although there appeared to be an infringement in the lead up to the goal. Two late goals from Nicklas Bendtner and Walcotts brace added gloss to Arsene Wengers scoreline.Stoke took an early lead through Kenwyne Jones and seemed to be hanging on for a victory at West Ham but the home sides pressure paid off with six minutes remaining as skipper Scott Parker levelled for the Hammers. In injury time Manuel Da Costa and substitute Victor Obinna completed the turnaround to record a 3-1 triumph.Late goals at Aston Villa took the game into extra time as substitute Emile Heskeys 86th minute strike was quickly cancelled out by Clark Carlisle for Championship outfit Burnley .Another Villa substitute Stewart Downing settled the tie with a powerful shot after 96 minutes.Gerard Houllier would be disappointed that Marc Albrighton was dismissed four minutes after Downing had scored but last season's beaten finalists held on to reach the last eight.
