Newcastle Jets announce free entry for Melbourne Heart game

Newcastle Jets will throw open the Port Macquarie Regional Stadium gates on Sunday. The Jets have offered free entry for the clash with Melbourne Heart which has been moved from their home venue of EnergyAustralia stadium.Originally, this Sunday was going to be Newcastles community day with 10,000 free tickets set to be released but the club was forced to move the match north to Port Macquarie after a motorcross event held at EnergyAustralia on October 16 put the pitch in unplayable conditions. Now the club will extend that generosity to Port Macquarie with Jets executive chairman Ken Edwards saying it is a must to again engage the community.
"We've always said we're about Newcastle, the Hunter and Northern NSW," Edwards told the Newcastle Herald."So this is a way that we can demonstrate that we mean what we say about connecting with our community. We're trying to make the best of an unfortunate situation.(Owner ) Nathan (Tinkler) made it clear, once we had established how much it would cost (about $100,000 in gate takings), that he was fully supportive of the approach we've taken," Edwards added."He's aware of all the important things happening at the club at all times."
