Nadal v Federer: Perhaps art can determine whos the best

Nadal v Federer whos the best? Federer has more titles but Nadal won three of this years majors. Federer is lauded as the greatest of all time but he cant beat Nadal. It would seem that deciding on a winner is just about impossible. If only there was a fair and unequivocally accurate way of determining it

Well, we may have just found a leveller art.

The pair have produced a self portrait as part of the build up to the ATP World Tour Finals which will be taking place at the 02 later this year. Now, I know as much about art as David James, but Ive been to the Tate Modern a couple of times so for what its worth heres my assessment of the two works

The silhouetted image has a strong sense of movement in it, projecting a fluid and stylish approach to his game. Meanwhile the player appears to be gazing ahead, perhaps suggesting that despite past glories the artist might have something to offer in the future. Federer has tellingly selected a couple of colours, blue for the body and yellow for the ball; this suggests a sense of panache, and that hell probably do alright at the Australian Open. He also used tennis balls to create the work a novel approach, but a mark of devotion to his game.

Nadal has gone for red, a contrast from the cool and calm blue of his competitor. The selected colour could be seen as a nod to his Spanish roots and an indicator hell probably win the French Open next year. The pose indic! ates glo ry this is clearly a man at the top of his game and an artist with a sublime back hand. Meanwhile the red splodges appear more densely than that of his rival, conveying a fierce and powerful approach to his art.

So whos the best ? Ill let you decide. If it helps, heres a video showing the pair creating their masterpeices

The works, along with self portraits of the other six players who qualify for the end of season tournament will go on show ahead of the Finals, before being sold off for charity. Tickets are available for the event and can be found here.
