Bryan Robson: Owen Hargreaves can play for Manchester United again

BRYAN ROBSON last night told Owen Hargreaves to keep battling away in his fight for fitness.

Old Trafford legend Robson believes Hargreaves can play again for Manchester United.


Hargreaves, 29, has struggled with injuries for two years and will undergo treatment on his problem knees in the United States.

But Robson, a United ambassador, has urged him not to give up.


He said: When you get an injury like Owens had, and youre out for as long as that, its a matter of thinking, this is what Im going to miss playing again. Ive got to work hard and get my fitness back.


The one thing Owen cant do is give up. If you give up, then youre not going to come back.

Hargreaves United career hit the buffers after starting with a Premier League and Champions League double triumph at the end of his first full season in 2008.


Serious knee tendinitis problems resulted in surgery and has restricted him to less than ONE minute of action since September 2008.


Robson added: I broke my leg three times between 19 and 21 at West Brom. It crosses your mind that you wont make it, especially when I broke my ankle.


So, youve just got to say, unfortunately Ive got these problems and had this operation, but if Im determined enough then I can get back.


And the United legend also believes Michael Carrick can return to top ! form.


He said: Michaels got a massive part to play for United. He didnt play so well in the second half of last season but hes proved hes a top player.


He reads the game really well and hes very good at intercepting things.
