Fabio Capello: The new parasailing donkey

Fabio Capello: The new parasailing donkey, editors choiceTodays Sun had a back page lead with the headline Jackass and a picture of Fabio Capello with donkey ears underneath it.

The article reads: Donkey Fabio Capello has stuck a hoof into Englands brave new world after just one game.

The gormless Italian vowed to rebuild after our World Cup debacle by bringing in young players.

But the silly ass has ruled Arsenal whizkid Jack Wilshere, 18, out of next months Euro qualifiers

It should be noted that Capello hasnt actually made his selection for the World Cup qualifiers, and could still call-up Wilshere.

But none-the-less, on this evidence it appears that the Sun would jump at the chance to attach him to a parasail and send him out to sea (or least back to Italy). The back page was the best example in a while of how opinion turns in this country (or at least in the red top media). This is the same man who was lauded pre-World Cup for shouting at Emile Heskey when he dared to use his mobile phone, was called a mastermind when he banned sauces like tomato ketchup from the dinner table and hailed as the best England manager in memory following a flawless World Cup qualification campaign.

In retrospect the respect and adulation he received before the World Cup was out of all proportion. If he had used a laser pen to assist his half-time team talk he would have been described as one of the great forward thinking minds of his generation. The truth is, we qualified from an easy group, the players might have been a happier bunch had they had their tomato ketchup and giving Emile Heskey a good rollicking (as enjoyable as it must have been) didnt seem to have much effect when it came to matters on the pitch.

And in just the same way now, the slating that Capello is receiving is out of line. Yes he gets! paid a lot, but he wasnt the one stupid enough to pay such ridiculous wages. We all know the World Cup was a shambles, and Capello deserves much of the blame but when your players (including Wayne Rooney) cant even pass in a straight line, theres little anyone could have done.

Give Capello a chance to get back in the saddle and guide us to Euro 2012. If he fails again, then by all means get out the parasail but you never know, he might just succeed. And if he does, well have to hang our heads in shame for this kind of abuse as he rides into the sunset.
