Arsenal snap up Sebastien Squillaci

ARSENAL have signed French defender Sebastien Squillaci from Sevilla.

Gunners manager Arsene Wenger confirmed this lunchtime that the dealfor the 30-year-old centre-back had been sealed after the Spanish clubaccepted an offer last week.

Squillaciwill not play in Saturdays Barclays Premier League game at Blackburnbut will be eligible for the Champions League campaign.

Theformer Lyon centre-half, who joined Sevilla from Les Gones two yearsago, asked to be left out of the side for the Champions League play-offagainst Braga last week so he would not be cup-tied for Europeancompetition.

Squillaci will strengthen an Arsenal rearguardweakened by the departures of William Gallas, Mikael Silvestre, SolCampbell and Philippe Senderos.
