Alan Hansens Premier League Preview: Tottenham v Wigan

Harry Redknapps team finally qualified for the group stages of the Champions League on Wednesday with a thumping 4-0 win over Young Boys. The season has started very brightly for Tottenham and it looks set to improve as next up at White Hart Lane is a Wigan side rooted at the bottom of the Premier League. The Latics wont relish this trip to North London, theyve conceded 10 goals already this season and suffered a 9-1 thrashing last time they made the trip. The North Londoners may not score nine this time but in terms of Premier 10 home bankers I find it hard to back against anything other than a convincing home win for Spurs.Tottenham really should have maximum points from their two league games this season having played Manchester City off the park in the first half of their match. However, they have shown no signs of slowing down after last seasons excellent end of season run. The return to fitness of Aaron Lennon has boosted their attacking threat and he looked far sharper against Stoke and Young Boys than he has in a long time. Gareth Bale on the left has been simply sensational already this season in terms of both creating and scoring goals. There cannot be a more improved player in the Premier League than him. For me, Tom Huddlestone has come of age and is now running games from the middle of the park both physically and with his passing. He is a striker or wingers dream as his passing off of both feet is top class. There is likely to be a few changes for the home side with Ledley King unlikely to be risked and possibly Jermain Defoe who is scheduled to have a groin operation. Jermain will be loathed to miss this one as he scored six goals against the Latics last season including five at White Hart Lane. However, Harry Redknapp has plenty of quality to come in so the home team wont be significantly weake! ned.ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOWRoberto Martinez has endured a tortuous start to the season as his side have made some diabolical mistakes at the back. It was important the team arrested their slide with a Carling Cup win at Hartlepool in midweek although this will be a far tougher test for Wigan. When you are struggling at both ends of the pitch it becomes extremely tough. I cannot see the Latics being able to shock a Spurs team that is bursting with confidence and hasnt lost at home in any competitions since mid-December. Thats a run of 13 wins and 4 draws. Tottenhams run includes eleven clean-sheets, so dont be surprised if Wigan fail to score again this weekend. After all, the Latics have failed to score in four of their last six away league trips having lost the last six in succession. After Wigans dismal defending in their opening two games and Tottenhams great start to the campaign, I have to back a home win on Premier 10. The only question seems to be, how many will Spurs score? With an estimated30,000 Premier 10 jackpot up for grabs who will you back? Each week, Hansen will select a Pools game of his choice and hell make his predictions.
