Exclusive picture: New Arsenal home kit revealed

Arsenal have revealed their new home kit for the 2010-11 season - and MirrorFootball has this exclusive first picture of Thomas Vermaelen wearing the retro-style Nike shirt.

The classic design has already proved a big hit with the big Belgian defender. “I really like this new kit. It’s the typical colours for Arsenal, white and red, and it’s really nice. Every club has their own traditional colours. For Arsenal it’s red and white and that’s the way it’s supposed to be.”

If the kit's '70s-styled design is traditional, then the technology behind it is cutting edge. Every shirt is made entirely from recycled polyester, crafted from up to eight plastic water bottles as part of Nike’s ‘Considered Design’ programme, which sees discarded plastic bottles diverted from landfills to be used in the manufacturing process.

Vermaelen also praised the kit’s recycled makeup: “It’s good I think, these days the environment is really important for the world and it’s good that Nike cares about that.”

The new kit officially goes on sale from Thursday July 29, but you can pre-order it TODAY from www.arsenal.com and through Club outlets.

When Aston Villa chief executive Paul Faulkner issued a club statement Sunday afternoon announcing that the Midlands side had identified the two most important traits in the search for a new manager, US coach Bob Bradley was effectively ruled out of the running. The first trait was they wanted candidates with experience managing in the Premier League. The second trait was someone who could build on the existing strengths in their current squad.
