Joey Barton: Please Stop Laughing Now
Alright, thats not what he said at all. Joey Barton, of Newcastle and brawl (both on and off the pitch) fame, has said that he is good enough for England. After I finished giggling quietly to myself, I actually considered what he was saying. Before we get any further though, Ill let you read the quote yourself:
First and foremost, I want to do well for Newcastle United. But watching some of the performances in the World Cup over the summer I think that on form, Im as good as anybody in this country.
Well when you put it like that Joey, it doesnt sound so silly. Ill be honest, I havent seen Joey Barton play since Newcastle were in the Premiership, and even hen he only managed 9 appearances due to various suspensions and jail sentences (well there was only one jail sentence). But we all saw that England performance, while we may disagree over the severity of our suckage (again, technical term), it was pretty clear that we were horrible. As Ive said before, this an England in need of change and Barton is certainly that. While I think he is a fairly deplorable person, he does appear to have cleaned up his act, going sober and participating in Tony Adams Sporting Chance clinic. He was injured for a lot last season, Ill be watching him this season. This could be interesting.
Note to Joey Barton: If you are reading this, I promise I didnt laugh once, and I think youre the best footballer of all time ever. Please dont hunt me down.
