Bayern Munich coach Louis van Gaal has put pen to paper on a new contract which will extend his stay at the club a further year, taking him through to the summer of 2012. Van Gaal has lifted Bayern Munich to a Bundesliga title, a German league cup title, and the Champions League final, and will be looking for European glory in the future.

It seems Van Gaal has quashed rumours of taking up a national team job in the near future, but it will be interesting to see if he extends his stay in Bavaria passed 2012. The European Championship takes place in 2012, and after that tournament a few national jobs may open up if certain teams make early, disappointing exits from the competition. Then, van Gaal could make the move to the national level.

Louis van Gaal has quite a job ahead of him at Bayern Munich. He will be expected to continue the success he has brought to the club, and to continue the success the club has had throughout its history. Certainly not easy, given the injuries that have been creeping into the squad.
