Carlo Ancelotti: I'm lucky not to get the Axe
CHELSEA boss Carlo Ancelotti last night admitted he is lucky he hasnt been sacked.
Having picked up a paltry 10 points from a possible 30, Chelseas title defence is hanging in the balance.
Chelsea have slipped to fifth place, six points behind leaders Manchester United before last night, having played a game more.
That run has left Ancelotti under huge pressure.
And the Italian admitted: I think I am safe but I am a lucky man. I understand that lot of coaches are sacked with these results.
While Ancelotti acknowledges his sides current run has not been good enough, he insists he should be judged at the end of the season.
He said: When you go to a restaurant, you pay the bill when you finish your meal. Its the same here.
We have to pay the bill at the end of the season. At the end the club can judge my job and everything.
I am not concerned because I have trust in the players. Obviously were not happy and I have to do a better job. But we have the skills and ability to come back.
The season is very long. The teams that are doing well now could have a difficult moment in one month. For this reason we must keep going and not lose confidence.
With luck we could have had six more points. But luck is not the reason for results, the reason was that we lost confi dence during games.
The main game for us losing our con! fidence was at Birmingham, because we played one of our best matches and lost. It was not easy to move on from that.
When you lose if you play s**t, it is easy to manage. But it is difficult to manage when play your best and you lose.
Ancelotti hopes to embark on a busy January transfer window as he looks to bolster his faltering squad.
A new central defender is top of his shopping.
Benfi ca star David Luiz, Borussia Dortmunds Neven Subotic and Boltons Gary Cahill are on Ancelottis list of potential signings.
But Ancelotti insists everyone involved in the player selection process at Stamford Bridge must be 100 per cent in agreement before they splash the cash.
Cahill is a good player but there are a lot of good players in England and Europe, said Ancelotti.
It is me who picks the players but Im not involved in the financial issues.
I read signing Ramires was not my choice. He was not my choice but he was also not the clubs choice.
He was the choice we made together. Everything that happens here is like that. Its the right way. I dont want to impose players on the club.
I understand which players we need but I have to listen to the club.
